While, leading the Anti-Corruption March on December 4, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni applauded the media for exposing the corrupt government officials, adding that the news articles are used as tip to investigate these officials.
Museveni said the anti-corruption agencies have been able to pick and process information from the media houses.
Against that backdrop, State House Anti- Corruption Unit headed by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema has confirmed to this website that it’s considering investigating Mr. Mwasa.
A top official in the unit who spoke in condition of anonymity told this website that the agency has already picked interest in Mwasa’s matter.
“Yes, we have started on this matter after getting information from the media,” he said.
Asked at what stage is the investigation, the official said, “right now we have picked information and we are processing it.”
He added that the unit will update the public through the media. “Our next course of action will be announced to the media by our spokesperson Don Wanyama.”
Earlier when we asked Nakalema about the matter, applauded the media for unearthing such stories. However, she couldn’t respond to more of our queries as she is out of the country.
The Deputy Inspectorate of Government (IG) Ms. Mariam Wangadya in the same spirit commended the media for publishing such reports which are used as tips by her office to kick off investigations.
“We have for a long time been picking up and investigating media stories some of which we based on to take serious action against culprits,” she told this website.
On Mwasa’s case, Ms. Wangadya referred us to the IG Irene Mulyagonja who couldn’t be reached.
Ali Munira the IG spokesperson was too unavailable.
What is however, shocking is that Charles Mwasa with his wealth he is battling a child neglect case in the courts of law.
He was dragged to court by Sylvia Nantumbwe for omitting to materially provide for his child.
In a custody and maintenance application filed (in Nakawa Family & Children’s Court) as Family Cause No. 15, Nantumbwe says Mr. Mwasa has no heart for Mary Victoria Nambuya, his biological child she produced for him on 21st February 2011.
In her her affidavit, Nantumbwe says “(I) had a brief relationship with him which led to the conception and birth of the child Nambuya Mary Victoria. (He) has never taken any interest in getting to know his daughter and has only met her once since she was born. (He) has never contributed to the financial needs of the child and does not pay school fees, housing or even medical bills (yet he) is gainfully employed and capable of providing maintenance for his daughter.”
Reports further suggest the money magnet has more related cases of child neglect with his mistresses remaining disgruntled.
