Traders in a notorious downtown market- Kisekka- last Saturday didn’t have kind words for Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu as they accused him and his cohorts of keeping their political nemesis President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in power by rejecting to use military means to overthrow him.
Muntu, who was repairing his expensive vehicle- Tundra was overwhelmed by the youth who sandwiched him and appreciated his spirited fight against the bad leadership of Museveni and the NRM which he once served.
However, the conversation took unprecedented shift when the angry youth told off the soft spoken Muntu who appealed to them to go back to their villages and build structures as the only avenue of defeating Museveni in the next election.
“Sort of that mubamwelimba. Omusajja tetusobola kumujjako nga tetuyina support,” Muntu responded in vernacular, meaning that if we have no grass root support we can’t win Museveni.
The argument attracted tens of traders who surrounded Muntu to listen to his advice. Most of them mechanics, reminded Muntu that apart from grass root mobilisation, there is a quickest way of removing Museveni from power.
“Commander ffe muzituwe tumwejireko oba mwe mulemedwa,” loosely translated as give us the guns if you have failed to overthrow him.
The ANT coordinator said, the only sustainable method which will forever bring peace in Uganda is to defeat Museveni democratically.
He laboured to remind these traders that if they all turned up in an election and vote, and also rally other five people in their villages to vote against Museveni, the NRM kingpin would be history in 2021.
“While you work, spare the weekends go to your villages and mobilise those people. Tell them about change,” he appealed.
Muntu who last year quit FDC having led the establishment for 5 years but faced stiff internal resistance, earlier told this website that even FDC knows very well that its mobilisation that can defeat President Museveni and nothing else.
However, the FDC for five years failed to subscribe to Muntu’s political approach saying the current environment isn’t favourable.
He quit and formed his own party Alliance for National Transition (ANT) which is he currently promoting across the country. He believes if well marketed, ANT can take power.
