Last week, TrumpetNews published a security dossier which exposed numerous strategies by People Power agents to make Makerere University ungovernable by identifying and building cells inside the university and cause disorder which was witnessed while students protested the increment of tuition fees.
The bloody riots lasted for a week before President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered withdrawal of military police from the university.
The deployment of military police at the institution to many Ugandans was a signal that security had detected something unusual as normally the protests are quelled by police constables.
In a dossier we learnt that two months before the violent strike broke out, several university administrators had been summoned at the police head offices in Naguru and were alerted of a possible outbreak of fierce demos mainly at Makerere, Kyambogo, Nkumba among other universities.
In our story we promised our readers that this website was conducting more investigations and would later publish the findings about the masterminds of Makerere chaos.
Enter Norman Tumuhimbise
The former FDC youth leader who became popular for rewriting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s book “SOWING THE MUSTARD SEED” and renaming it “Un-sowing the mustard seen” and would later be imprisoned is among the architects of the violent strike along the The Alternative members.
Norman previously formed the ‘Jobless Brotherhood’ a gang that made a name from throwing painted piglets at Parliament of Uganda in violent clashes with Uganda Police.
Mr. Tumuhimbise after quit the Jobless Brotherhood on grounds that the group had allowed to be incorporated in the FDC party.
Sources say, Tumuhimbise formed another independent, non- partisan youth movement- The Alternative, whose mission is to advocate for youth employment, respect of human rights and democratic governance.
Rebranding from Jobless Brotherhood’ to The Alternative was in order to be more gender responsive and positive approach. In a nutshell Tumuhimbise’s new movement implies a viable option to the current national leadership as youth leaders of today and tomorrow.
To avoid arrests, elude security crackdowns, Tumuhimbise and his other members are involved in an informal coalition of youth not legally registered.
Makerere Mayhem
The Alternative led by Norman Tumuhimbise played a pivotal role organizing and mobilizing Makerere students to peacefully engage security agents while striking. Further it equipped the students with skills of overcoming bloody riots in case security turns brutal in suppressing the protests.
A source says on numerous occasions Norman Tumuhimbise held secret meetings with Makerere University Guild President Julius Katerega and his Vice to design a robust plan on how to take on the university administration over the fees increment.
“For a number of times Tumuhimbise and Katerega would meet at his home late in the night,” said a source.
In their meetings they concurred to train a section of students who would be at the vanguard of these protests.
The Alternative has also held discussions with Kyambogo guild council led by Jonathan Tundulu also a People Power loyalist.
