Ali Abdu Jabar, has Saturday succumbed to chest wounds sustained after his sister-in-law shot him while playing with his gun as he visited his wife who had just given birth at Independent Hospital in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.
Police says he was shot at around 10:45am by Zaina Karama, a cousin sister to his wife. The shooter slipped into coma and has since been admitted at the hospital.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesman of Kampala Metropolitan told the media that efforts by the hospital doctors to save Jabar failed.

“The gun was owned by the deceased. It was picked by the suspect (Karama) who started playing with it.

The deceased withdrew the gun from her and removed the magazine then handed the gun back to her. She again played with the gun and pointed it at him and when she pulled the trigger, a bullet was discharged and hit the deceased in the chest,”  Owoyesigyire said.

While Karama played with the pistol, Jabar removed the magazine but failed to notice that a bullet has gone into chamber.

A murder charge has been opened against Karama.

“We would like to caution private gun owners to, at all times, be careful on how they hold and operate their guns and never to hand them over to or anyone who is not qualified to hold it,” Owoyesigyire cautioned.
