Junior ICT Minister Idah Nantaba has dismissed as true reports that she had fled to Canada as some unidentified people trailed her and wanted to eliminate her.
Nantaba was appearing in the media for the first following the death of Ronald Sebulime, a motorbike cyclist who was shot dead by police after the Minister rushed to Naggalama police Station reporting that someone was trailing her a few months ago.
After that incident, the President advised Nantaba to stay home until the authorities resolved the matter.
However, Nantaba went to Canada on what she calls state duties unlike previous reports that she had fled the country.
“I am a public servant. When the prime minister signs me to execute government duties, I go,” replied Nantaba while refuting the exile reports.
The once powerful Minister who always had the President on her speed dial told NBSTV presenter on Thursday morning that she knows the people who want to kill. Pressed to name those who want to kill her, Nantaba said, “they are people who we dangerously positioned. Because sometimes when you confront a General who I think to him shedding blood is a game, that is what I did.”
She added: “I am not at liberty to name them but I have mentioned them to the President.”
Asked what was the President’s reaction, Nantaba fired back, “what did you want him to do? Investigate?” she went on, “service is selfless and where you expect challenges so one of the challenges I faced when I was fighting land grabber which I still do by the way was to block General, by the way I am blocking three Generals who still want our land in Kayunga. I am blocking them from evicting thousands of people from villages. The other rumours I hear them but I may not be in position to articulate the hows whens and whats”
Nantaba has earlier insisted the killers eat and dine with the President.
“Yes. They stay with him. I have told the President before that he is a prisoner; bad people bring him information, yet the good information is blocked from reaching him.”
She weighed in on the popular phrase of Mafia saying it is true they have engulfed Museveni.
On how Museveni should help her, “he needs to clean the police. Have the courtesy to touch the untouchables. The country is suffering but some people can’t be brought to order. Every time you cross their line, you’re looking for bloodshed.”
