People Power Rubbishes Bobi Wine- Besigye Talks

Besigye and Bobi Wine share a light moment

The People Power Movement has dismissed media reports which suggest their leader Hon Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is embroiled in talks with his counterpart Col Kizza Besigye, the founder of FDC and now leading People’s Government.

On Monday People Power spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi expressed unawareness on the ongoing talks as suggested by Daily Monitor insisting that the story published on Saturday lacks facts.

He reiterated that there are no talks between the two principals because the ‘red movement’ had been previously engaged in consultations with several opposition bigwigs including Gen. Mugisha Muntu and many more.

“The Saturday story kept quoting sources, sources and nothing factual. If there were talks they should have quoted the real people engaged in the talks,” Ssenyonyi said.

“Sources familiar with how the talks have gone so far have told Saturday Monitor that those who wish to see a joint Opposition candidate in 2021 can at best only be cautiously optimistic.

The sources say Mr Kyagulanyi’s team has been categorical in their request for Dr Besigye to back the singer-turned politician for a shot at the presidency in the coming election. The sources say Mr Kyagulanyi’s team insist that if Dr Besigye accepts to back their man, the Opposition will nearly certainly sweep President Museveni off the presidency,” Daily Monitor reported in a story titled, “Inside Bobi, Besigye talks.”

Appearing on NBSTV, Ssenyonyi states that People Power is working with all forces of change around the country.

“For now our president is not talking to anyone. I am the People Power spokesperson at least I should be in the know.”

Daily Monitor proposes that Besigye fronted former MP Wafula Ogutu while Bobi Wine is represented by David Lubongoya whose political history is very thin.
