Uganda Police has come out to clarify that it has in custody Fortune Ayebare Mugisha whose relatives poured in social media announcing her disappearance on Tuesday.
Those known to her say she went missing from Shell Petrol Station in Kireka.
Police was prompted to issue a clarification after this website reported Wednesday that Ayebare had been missing.
Media reports say Ayebare was arrested during a joint operation by Military Intelligence and Police.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, confirmed Ayebare was in police custody.
“Yes it’s true she was arrested but I am not privy to why she was arrested but the officer who picked her up notified the police and we have informed her parents of her detention,” Onyango stated.
Onyango was responding to social media posts from her friends indicating she had gone “missing on Tuesday night from Kireka shell. Whoever can get to her whereabouts please notify police,” the post indicated.
Ayebare is now being held at Katwe Police Station.
Ayebare is reportedly the among the last individuals seen by Maria Nagirinya before she was abducted.
