Nagirinya’s Husband Speaks out: “I faint all the Time”

Edgar and his wife wedded last year

Edgar Gateni, the husband to murdered social worker Maria Nagirinya has paid tribute to his wife who was kidnapped and killed.

“It’s been traumatising. I have spent three days without eating or drinking since I learnt of my wife’s kidnap. Maria was my friend and friend to her dad. May God strengthen her dad and I. Part of me has been robbed. Our dreams have been robbed,” Gateni wrote on his Facebook Page.

He added that he has known Maria for 12 years, “We became friends in Primary Three, Maria was my briefcase, and she used to listen to me and loved me with one heart.”

The couple after buying a plot was planning to kick off construction.

“Little did I know that she would not see those messages as she was already ‘asleep’, I thought she would see them in the morning but she had already been murdered”

He said he had never fainted but since the ordeal, he had fainted several times.

“I don’t know who did this. I have asked God why me?”

Gateni’s questioned why death would rob his wife in the same month they planned to celebrate their anniversary.

“Before her death, she was sending signs… I would ask her to get online but she would be a bit busy, I always asked her to move with someone in the night whenever she was moving alone,” he said.

Gateni said the dreams he had with his wife have been shattered. “Part of me is gone. I’m pretending to be strong but I’m broken inside. We haven’t even left a child for our people”

“I have come here to say goodbye knowing that God who brought you in my life…. I will never replace you Maria.’’

“It’s been traumatizing. I have spent three days without eating or drinking since I learnt of my wife’s kidnap.”
