On Wednesday President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held a discussion with a delegation from Burundi Embassy headed by Ambassador Jean Bosco Barege whose tenure has come to an end after he was posted to Nairobi, Kenya by his home government.

Barege, this website reliably reports received a transfer announcement in June 2019 to replace his colleague Amb. Remy Barampama in Nairobi.

Barege will be succeeded by a female diplomat Amb.Epiphanie Kabushemeye Ntamwana back in Kampala.

The envoy described as patriotic, amiable, hardworking and honest by those known to him was deployed to Uganda in 2012 having served as Chef de Cabinet:Ministry at the Presidency Responsible for the East African Community Affairs from 2008  to 2011.

Bujumbura’s decision to keep him as their representative in East Africa could be attributed to the wealthy experience he has garnered during his 11 years of distinguished service, commitment and love for his country.

This website further understands that while in Kampala, Barege initiated good diplomatic relations with Ugandan government and several other people from all walks of life.

Barege later met Foreign Minister Kutesa on Thursday

This is evident that until departure Kampala and Bujumbura have not had any frosty relations but have rather teamed up to fight regional insecurity, boost trade and support their citizens in overcoming perpetual health hazards.

Officials at Burundi Embassy who didn’t want to be quoted recounted of the uneasiness Barege expressed when the Western Media peddled a narrative which fuelled the political crisis in Burundi.

But using his established contacts in Ugandan media and across East Africa, Mr. Barege laboured to change the narrative which portrayed his home government as a ‘killer regime’ which would eliminate, torture its opponents.

At a time of his departure, the world had already known the truth about Burundi and who were behind the sustained negative campaign against Bujumbura establishment.

On Wednesday Barege met President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House Entebbe and recounted on their tireless efforts in keeping close ties of both countries at national and regional level and also recapped on the decision by the two nations to combat insecurity in war-torn Somalia in 2007.

Barege assured Museveni of Burundi’s commitment in strengthening bilateral relations between the two East African landlocked nations.
