Inhuman? Nakasero Hospital Drives Patient on Life Support Machine to Equity Bank to withdraw Money for Treatment

Customers queuing in Equity Bank, Wandegeya Branch waiting to make transactions were Saturday left speechless when a man in a wheelchair and on life support system was brought to the bank to withdraw money to foot hospital bills.

According to an eyewitness, the unidentified man brought in the banking hall was unable to talk or support himself to write on the withdraw slip.

An eyewitness says the patient was brought by officials from Nakasero Hospital.

All the customers and bank staff were left in shock how coldhearted the hospital officials would be.

“They all seemed to be in a rush. I think he needed money to conduct a major operation on him,” another separate customer who was present in the banking hall recounts.

The patient who had breathing complications was unable to talk and write was however denied access to his funds by the Bank officials.

According to Equity Bank staff who asked not to be named for fear of losing his job, the bank follows certain procedures to be able to release money to a sickly clients who most times are unconscious or in a state of the gentlemen brought to the bank.

“Some times releasing such money needs a court document,” he said.

This Website has reliably learnt that Equity Bank officials at Wandegeya referred the patient to their headquarter at Church House.

This website further understands that the patient sought to withdraw over shs 100 million.

“This is why we suspect the hospital needed conduct a major operation on the patient.”

Equity Manager (Wandegeya) only identified as Omwero couldn’t be reached for a comment.

Other officials contacted were not willing to speak about the matter.

Equally officials at Nakasero Hospital were not available for a comment.

The actions of both institutions have since ignited anger among members of the public who questioned the conduct of both the Bank and the Hospital.

The picture of the unidentified patient on life support system in a wheelchair in a banking hall has since made rounds on social media as Ugandans continue to castigate Equity Bank and Nakasero Hospital.
