Musician Joseph Mayanja commonly known as Joze Chameleon is pushing for a meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to solicit for support to defeat popular Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago in the coming elections.
This website has reliably learnt that the singer who for long has worked with Museveni on a campaign trail is negotiating with influential ruling party bigwigs to have the President’s ear.
Whereas Mr. Mayanja plans to contest as an opposition candidate holding a Democratic Party (DP) card, the singer has laid his reasons why Museveni should back him to end radicalism in the city propagated by Erias Lukwago who is facilitated by the People’s Assembly superintended by opposition kingpin Col. Kizza Besigye.
Chameleon further states that he subscribes to political tolerance as a means of developing Kampala, a big reason that could convince the person of the President to offer him support.
Lukwago for a long time has opposed government and its policies and worked hard to undermine government programs which is attributed to stunted growth of Kampala as a capital city.
In his first tenure as Lord Mayor, Lukwago staged hostile reception to the former KCCA Executive Director, Jenifer Musisi as he spread hate campaign against the KCCA technical leadership.
His resistance derailed uncountable government projects.
DP, led by Norbert Mao on the other hand is known for its tolerance with political opponents and its will to collaborate with government to extend good leadership, services and development to the common man.
It’s against that backdrop that Chameleon believes NRM should support him to end extremism in Kampala.
Very calculative, Chameleon has approached a few officials who are strongly trusted by the President telling them, he has support but lacks funding.
These Museveni’s aides have since promised to take Chameleon to the President only if he maintains his word.
They insist the musician, a self proclaimed Legend is fond of making comical decisions and has thus lost public trust and sympathy.
One of the officials whose names we will not reveal because of the sensitity of this matter, opened up to Chameleon while chatting on whatsapp that he needs to stop jokes if he has has wholeheartedly considered politics as a career.
“You need to show the public that you are a man or your word. Don’t be jumpy,” he advised the musician.
The superstar has over the years been inconsistent with his decisions which compelled his followers to conclude that he is always pulling stunts as a means of keeping relevant in the showbiz world.
“Politics isn’t showbiz. Here you work, and make the hard decisions. You either fall or elevate,” the NRM official’s messages to Chameleon read.
