Ex- South African President Thabo Mbeki in Uganda for AU Political Consultative Meetings

Mr. Mbeki and State Minister for Foreign Affairs

The Former of the Republic of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki is currently  in Uganda leading an African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHLP) mandated by the AU to hold political consultations on peace, security, political and economic integration and development of the countries constituting the Horn of Africa.

The AU High Level Panel arrived in Kampala  yesterday evening  on a  (3) three-day Consultative Mission, to pursue the objectives of regional integration in the Horn of Africa

The Delegation, this morning  had fruitful engagements with H.E. Yoweri Kaguta MUSEVENI , President of the Republic of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Rebecca KADAGGA, Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and discussed Uganda’s overall contribution to the achievement of Regional integration in the Horn of Africa, and broadly the African continent.

H.E. Mbeki also met with  Hon. Okello ORYEM, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

( International Affairs ) and Hon. Gen. Elly TUMWIINE, Minister of Security later this afternoon  at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed matters impeding the smooth integration process in the Horn of Africa.

The  former President is also expected to hold  meetings with the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, and later, with Representatives of the Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s)  engagements that will afford the  people an opportunity to express their views on integration in the Political and Social Economic aspects of this process.
