Hon. Dr. Philemon Mateke, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for Regional Cooperation today officiated the launch of the Uganda Tanzania Business Forum at the Ministry Headquarters.
In his remarks, the Minister noted that Uganda and Tanzania enjoy excellent cordial relations and that this will be the first ever Business Forum that will take place. Hon.
Mateke also noted that the business forum will be presided over by the Heads of State of Uganda and Tanzania and will also be attended by Cabinet ministers and other Government departments and policy makers.
The Ag. Permanent Secretary, Amb. Isaac Sebulime stated that over 500 business people and investors from the Republic of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania will gather at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from the 4th – 5th September 2019, for the first ever Uganda Tanzania Business Forum.
The event is organized by the Uganda High Commission in Dar-es-Salaam in partnership with Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF).
Amb. Richard Kabonero, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania informed that the forum will take place under the theme “Promoting bilateral trade and investment for growth and sustainable development”. Amb. Aziz Mlima, Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Uganda stressed that the key objective of this joint business forum is to create an enabling platform that allows the private sector from the two countries to share experiences, create business to business networks, identify opportunities and challenges of on-going trade and investment, and to showcase their products and services at an exhibition.
The Uganda Tanzania Business Forum will bring together participants from the business communities in Uganda and Tanzania, analysts, economists, legal experts, international organisations, multinational agencies, development partners and leading regional media houses.
At this one- day private sector led event, key highlights will include extensive B2B engagement opportunities, enlightening presentations and refreshing and informative plenary sessions with contemporary and relevant discussions about how best to exploit investment opportunities and overcome bottlenecks to bilateral trade between Uganda and Tanzania.
At the planned Trade and Investment Exhibition that will be officially opened by the Heads of State, businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services to leading businesses and key public sector officials.
