List: 45 Asians’ Properties ‘Fraudulently’ Repossessed by Tycoon Mohammed Alibhai

Kampala’s wealthy businessman Mohammed Alibhai of Indian origin has been cited in the fraudulent repossession of departed Asians’ properties.

Most of these prime properties are located in Ugandan capital, Kampala and partly across the country.

The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) on Tuesday heard and later instituted a special taskforce to investigate circumstances under which two ministers, a diplomat, a permanent secretary and other local tycoons acquired or disposed of huge properties of the departed Asians which had been bought by government after compensation to the owners.

This happened after officials from Departed Asians Property Custodian Board (DAPCB) informed Parliament that they had landed on information implicating top government officials and several other businessmen in the illegal repossession of these properties which well previously occupied by Asians who were compensated by government before they vacated.

What however, is shocking is that the same properties were sold to government by those who reclaimed them.

This website under stands that those at the center of the illegal sale of these disputed properties either forged powers of attorneys, forged land titles or bribed officials in government at that time.

One of the local tycoon at the heart of this scandal is Mr. Mohammed Alibhai who officials from DAPCB accuse of illegally reclaiming and later selling off the properties.

When contacted, Mr. Mohammed’s son Ali Alibhai disregarded this report as “fake news.”
