Junior officers working in the office of the Inspectorate of Government (IG) Ms. Irene Mulyagonja are living in fear after a fellow staff was picked by unidentified people and has since been detained in a cell in Eastern Uganda.
This officer (names withheld) was arrested as he left office a fortnight ago and has for the time been held incommunicado.
“We can’t access him nor have we heard anything from him. Every superior we try to ask feigns ignorance of his whereabouts,” said a fellow worker who pleaded not to be named either for fear of being arrested.
The news comes at a time when there has been a complaint against the IGG for mistreating her junior workers and also claims of misuse of office.
A whistleblower who wished not to be named petitioned State House to investigate the IG over corruption related issues.
Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema who heads a powerful anti-corruption unit sanctioned by the President launched her investigation against Ms. Mulyagonja.
Last month, TrumpetNews, published a palatial house which Ms. Mulyagonja is constructing on Ridgeway road in upscale Kololo suburb.
This property which is almost completed is tightly guarded by heavily armed security personnel has since been valued at shs 4.7 billion shillings.
According to a survey and valuation report seen by this website, the plot of land on which the house sits (plot 39) in Kololo is estimated to be 0.4 acres which costs shs 3 billion in Kololo.
And the house which she is erecting was put at shs 1.7 billion.
The valuers argue that acquiring a plot of land in Kololo, Kampala, is equated to staying in Beverly Hills is U.S.
The officer arrested is accused of revealing this information to media which the IGG has kept confidential over time.
“She was so rattled to see the articles in the media outlets especially online,” a source in IG’s office adds.
As to when and whether the arrested junior officer will be released remains unknown.
No official in the IG’s office was willing to comment on this matter when reached.
