It has emerged that former Prime Minister, Apolo Nsibambi had developed cancer which he has been treating until he breathed his last on Tuesday at his residence in Rubaga, Kampala.
Esther Nsibambi, wife to the deceased told mourners at her home that her husband has been quietly treating cancer and had been responding to the medication very positively.
Nsibambi’s health never deteriorated and he died conversing with his wife.
The country learnt of his demise on Tuesday evening but the cause of death had remained unknown.
Among other prominent Ugandans, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni used his social media pages to condole the death of the former Premier.
Museveni said he has instructed Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda to set up a team to prepare a decent send off for Late Nsibambi.
The deceased served as Prime Minister for 12 years since 1999 to 2011, making him the longest serving Premier.
