Uganda’s powerful opposition leader, Col Kizza Besigye has lately come under fire for constantly rubbishing an election as a means of regime change despite contesting four times against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
His revelation sparked off anger among fellow opposition leaders who reviewed his statements as undemocratic.
New kid on the block, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine that leads People Power Movement who is perceived as threat for Besigye’s long supremacy a few days ago lashed at him saying whereas the People’s Government leader believes an election can’t cause change having contested four times, other opposition honchos are hopeful the election can bring magic.
Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda a fortnight ago referred to Besigye as Museveni’s chief campaigner whose message helps his political adversary to win election since he demoralizes voters by saying an election is a sham.
On Wednesday while addressing supporters at FDC head offices at Najjanankumbi in Kampala, the horse voiced Colonel clarified on his involvement in an election although he doesn’t believe it can cause a transition.
“In politics there is strategy which covers avenues which we use to cause a transition and an election isn’t among our strategy,” Besigye said.
According Wikipedia, a political strategy is about how parties, candidates and governments think and plan in order to achieve their goals. It requires consideration of many different factors such as the nature of the market, history, culture, governance, stakeholders, competitors, resources and goals.
It is against that background that Besigye refers to election as a trick which can’t entirely be relied on in quest for power.
Lately, Besigye and his team have been traversing the country rallying support ahead of 2021.
Unlike other political leaders, Beisgye is yet to declare his intention to vie for Presidency in the coming election.
The signals are clear he will stand as it has always been his trick previously.
