Two powerful opposition leaders in Uganda have agreed to bury the hatchet and focus on fighting a common enemy in President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who has ruled the East African nation for 33 years.

Kizza Besigye the founder of FDC now leading a People’s assembly teamed up with a renowned pop star Bobi Wine real names Robert Kyagulanyi who commands a People Power Movement in what they termed as a “cordial meeting held as partners in the struggle for free Uganda.”

Besigye on Monday, paid a cordial visit to Mr. Kyagulanyi at his residence in Magere, Wakiso District after the singer had returned from jail where he had been remanded for leading unlawful assembly while protesting social media tax last year in July.

The pair’s meeting followed a bitter exchange between the two as they all disagreed on a number of political issues including a joint opposition crusade, engaging the ‘enemy’ through election and many more.

Kyagulanyi who is the new entrant in the field, was filmed lambasting Besigye as being undemocratic and selfish after trying to unseat his nemesis for four times he dismisses the election saying opposition can’t take power through a ballot.

Besigye responded to Kyagulanyi saying it would be his benefit he studied from his experience given the period he has spent fighting the enemy.

Below we produce the memorandum of understanding signed by the two parties.

On Monday 6th May 2019, the leadership of People’s Government led by Dr. Kizza Besigye and the leadership of People Power Movement led by Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi held a cordial meeting as partners in the struggle for a free Uganda.

The two teams agreed on the following points:

We took note that we are all on the same mission to free Uganda from dictatorship and oppression. We agreed that despite belonging to different formations/ fronts, we must all work together as partners on the same mission.

To this end, we call upon all our supporters, members and leaders to focus our energies and resources towards quickly ending the 33 year NRM/ Museveni junta and building a free and democratic society.

We agreed, and commit ourselves not to engage in conduct which creates disharmony and undue collision amongst forces of change, and to always act in a manner that reflects togetherness and comradeship.

We took note of violations of human rights which have been persistently occasioned on our leaders and indeed on other Ugandans who have attempted to organize against a brutal regime.

These include unlawful arrests, detention and torture, unlawful blocking of legitaimate activities, violently breaking up of meetings and functions, blocking media engagements, etc.

To this end, we agreed to resist all violations against our freedom of speech, expression, assembly, movement, conscience, etc.

The specific activities in pursuance of this point will be communicated from time to time.

We acknowledge that the forces of change are stronger when we all work together and speak with the same voice as we confront the common enemy.

To this end, we agreed to engage with all other forces of change, with the view of agreeing on what we can do together to hasten the struggle.
