Burundi Hands over 5 FLN Rebels to Rwanda

5 rebels who were handed over to Rwanda

Five fighters attached to National Liberation Front (FLN) a rebel outfit that operates in Nyungwe Forest were Monday handed over to Rwanda security forces by Burundi Police.

This website has reliably learnt that the operation to handover the fighters occurred on Monday afternoon in Chibitoke province in collaboration with the province administration, the representative of the The National Intelligence Service from Bujumbura in the presence of a delegation of the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM) and the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC)

The fighters handed over were identified as Pascal Uwimana, Claude Hategekimana, Jean Claude Harerimana, Jean Pierre Tuyizere, Emmanuel Hagenintwari, Éric Ntegerejimana and Albert Havugimana.

According to reports obtained, these rebels ran to Burundi after they were overpowered by Rwandan troops in a fierce fight in Nyugwe Forest on April 8, 2019.

They were coming for Rutara Kivu in DRC with other a 100 fighters who believed to still be in Nyugwe forest or have been killed in battles with RDF.

The five were found with rifles and Motorola walk talkies.

Nyungwe Forest where the FLN rebels have pitched camp borders with Burundi.

The group’s leader Callixte Nsabimana alias Sankara was a few days ago captured and is held in Kigali waiting to be charged in Court.

Rwanda on several occasions has accused its neighbour Burundi of supporting these rebels who are basing in Nyugwe forest.

But this new development lays transparency exhibited by Burundi that it has no hand in formation or supporting this rebel group.
