Former MTN General Manager of Corporate Services, Anthony Katamba has escaped what is believed to have been an assassination attempt after gunmen waylaid him at his gate.
Katamba escaped unhurt.
The attempt on his life was made in the wee hours (around 3:30am) of Friday in Kiwatule a Kampala suburb where Katamba resides with his family.
This website understands that the unidentified gunmen fired volleys of bullets after missing the target.
“Katamba used a behind gate when the gunmen had ambushed him on the front gate,” said an eyewitness.
It remains unclear whether Katamba learnt of the mission to end his life and decided to outwit the killers.
“The gunmen were on a motorbike as it has always been the norm,” added an eyewitness.
We couldn’t reach Anthony Katamba for a comment as his phone was switched off.
It also remains unclear whether he reported the matter to police.
Katamba in February left MTN very acrimoniously at a time the telecom’s foreign workers were deported by government for breaching national security including the CEO Wim Vanhelleputte.
