President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni considers assigning Independent MP Hon Anita Among for clandestine mission in Rwenzori Region after it emerged he wasn’t impressed with performance of high ranking officials whose role was to neutralize FDC in the area.
Museveni has recently been heard and seen publicly hyping Among’s mode of operation despite being an Independent legislator and above all a former member of FDC.
Over the weekend the President while in Bukedea showered praises on Among as a politician who has been able to use her links to attract money and develop her constituency.
Before the President hyped Among, a source in NRM party had revealed to us how Museveni is contemplating dispatching her to Rwenzori region, Western Uganda particularly Kasese District to deal with radical FDC supporters ahead of 2021 elections.
In the recent past, Museveni sent his brother Gen. Salim Saleh a well known mobiliser to the area.
Saleh has since camped in the region for close to a year establishing projects for local residents.
Saleh in a bid to win the locals’ royalty proposed a shs 600 billion multi-sectoral approach as a means of wiping out poverty from Kasese.
Very many Kasese residents have turned to be beneficiaries of Saleh’s proposal but what still dismays the President is despite the efforts, majority of the recipients have not pledged their royalty to NRM.
It is against that backdrop that Anita Among’s name was proposed.
Among has previously delivered a couple of opposition MPs and leaders to the President especially those from Kasese.
“She has strong links among leaders in Kasese. And these are the same leaders who influence their voters to out NRM,” a source said.
On numerous occasions, the FDC lawmakers hailing from Kasese have been heard urging their constituents to “eat” Museveni’s money and vote FDC.
This statement can be supported by Monday events in Kasese where opposition icon Kizza Besigye and a number of FDC stalwarts including FDC president Patrick Amuriat welcomed 15000 NRM defectors, no so long after Saleh initiated the poverty eradication projects in the area.
It also explains why President Museveni a few weeks rushed to Kasese and addressed a function which was organized by one of the area MPs Atkins Katushabe.
When this website contacted Hon Among for a comment, she turned our calls busy. No NRM or State House officials were willing to comment on this matter when contacted.
