Rwandan Musicians, Charly na Nina, Forced to Cancel Kampala Show

Charly and Nina

Rwandan dynamic duo of Charly na Nina has reportedly been forced to cancel their performance in Kampala by the authorities in Kigali.

The Owooma hit makers were slated to perform at liquid Silk Naalya’s unplugged night on May 1, together with Ugandan vocalist Geosteady.

Speaking to this website Nina Muhoza the lead singer confirmed the news noting that they have cancelled their performance due to security reasons.

“We have already canceled the gig we had in Uganda in early May over security reasons.  Instead we are much focusing on our upcoming UK tour,” noted Nina.

However, a reliable source conversant with the issue told us that the pair has been stopped from performing in Uganda as their appearance could mean that Rwandans have nothing to fear while in the country.

“They were stopped by the intelligence services because their performance would render the travel advisory recently issued by the Rwandan government irrelevant in the eyes of Rwandans,” a source said.

The government of Rwanda towards the end of February issued a notice warning its citizens not to travel to Uganda due to incidents of Rwandans being kidnapped and tortured in Uganda.

This is not the first time Rwandan artists have been stopped from performing in Uganda.

In December 2018, Rwandan singer based in America, The Ben was barred from performing on news year’s eve at Pearl of Africa Hotel in Kampala where Nigerian singer Davido headlined the act.

The same month another American based singer Meddy was stopped from performing in Burundi. With both being told there is now way they could entertain an enemy
