Jinja Town on Saturday turned into a war zone of sorts after protesters lit bonfires, surged on the streets to protest against police’s action of stopping Kizza Besigye from addressing his supporters in Kira radio station.
Besigye was forced into his car which was towed from the town back to Kampala.

But before reaching the new Nile Bridge, one of his supporters untied the vehicle from the breakdown and Besigye drove back to Jinja town.
Police was forced to fire volleys of teargas to disperse crowds which had turned more chaotic by pelting stones at the police trucks.
Police which was following Besigye later lost him as his driver a one Kato veered off the street and entered in shopping arcades lanes.
The army intervened to disperse Dr Besigye’s supporters who had become more rowdy at Kirinya Road in Jinja.
Many people were injured in the process including Besigye’s private secretary Ronald Muhinda who accuses police of using excessive force on him.
