Saudi Arabian Tourist Drowns in River Nile taking Selfie

Alsubaie Mathkar, a Saudi Arabian national slipped and drowned on River Nile at Kalagala Falls in Kayunga District as he attempted to snap himself on water.

The incident occurred on Sunday.

Police in Kayunga recovered his body on Tuesday and has since taken it to Mulago Hospital for postmortem.

Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Hellen Butoto told the media that Makhkar slipped while taking a selfie with his mobile phone.

Two of his colleagues two Saudi Arabian nationals, one Egyptian national and a Ugandan national failed to save him as he was swept away by the ferocious falls.

The deceased had been in country for only four days.

Local fishermen who recovered his body initially demanded shs 5 million but settled for shs 2 million which was paid by the deceased’s family.
