As FDC is yet to come to terms of the departure of its two bigwigs- former President Mugisha muntu and Kitgum Woman MP Beatrice Anywar, another legislator is purportedly in talks with the ruling party.
Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu last year quit FDC to form his own party National Transformation Alliance while Anywar popularly referred to as Mama Mabiira made her stand official last month as she joined the NRM MPs in Kyankwanzi to endorse President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s sole candidacy.
Now reports gathered by this website from Najjanankumbi indicate that the party is investigating Kasese Municipality lawmaker Robert Centenary who could be on his out after he was approached by Museveni lobbyists promising him a huge position in government if he makes a pronouncement.
Some years ago, Christopher Kibazanga, a younger brother to Rwenzururu King, Charles Mumbere and a strong defender of Kizza Besigye, left FDC and he now serves as Minister of Agriculture in Museveni’s Administration.
MP Centenary, we confirmed has been very collaborative with Gen. Salim Saleh who has camped in Rwenzori sub-region to crash FDC ahead of 2021 elections.
Rwenzori particularly Kasese is the only region in Uganda that fully supported opposition.
In the previous election no single NRM parliamentary candidate won an a seat.
“Robert Centenary has lately been put under investigations. His closeness with Gen. Saleh and other NRM officials like deputy treasurer Omona worries the party,” said a source in FDC.
On Tuesday while debating opposition politics on NBSTV, FDC MP Francis Mwijukye openly wondered why fellow colleagues like Centenary have chosen passive participation in People’s Government.
Centenary could be the only party lawmaker who is not involved in the membership of Besigye’s new establishment- People’s Government.
Asked on the status of Centenary, FDC spokesman Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju said he doesn’t speak for individuals but FDC as party.
Asked what action or course could FDC be undertaking on Centenary’s issues if at all reports of his defection turn to be true, Ssemujju refered us to FDC Kasese MPs’ chairman William Nzogu who couldn’t be reached.
Sometime last year, Centenary openly defied the FDC’s audit of all party members.
If NRM successfully fishes Centenary from FDC he will join a bandwagon of many officials who left in the recent past.
Some of them include; Rubaramira Ruranga, Anita Among, Beatrice Anywar, and many others.
Reports send shivers under the FDC political spine at a time all political institutions in the country are consolidating their position ahead 2021.
Not so long ago, President Museveni who has ruled Uganda for close to 30 years predicted that in the next election there will be no opposition.
