Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), founder Col. Kizza Besigye out of experience has reassured political actors propelling for Joint Opposition Presidential Candidate to stop wasting their time.

He said, a joint opposition pact is untenable particularly under the current political environment where the ruling party uses divide and rule method to consolidate its position in power.

Appearing on local radio station- Simba, on Tuesday evening, the opposition political dynamite expounded on political tools, ‘dictators’ across the globe use to extend their longevity in leadership like what is happening in Uganda.

Kizza Besigye, for close to 2 decades is yet to unseat President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni whom he supported and worked for as a personal doctor before breaking ranks in 1999 after penning a scathing dossier against the military establishment.

He highlighted use of fear, control of country’s resources, unleashing propaganda against politicians deemed state opponents, use of divide and rule as some of the instruments used by NRM to remain in power.

It is against that backdrop that Besigye openly told the moderator that under such environment, a joint opposition can never survive those instruments especially the sophisticated tool of ‘divide and rule’.

Many times opposition party leaders in Uganda have attempted to formulate a joint team led by a single presidential candidate that can be able to match the ruling party in times of election but in vain.

In 2011, parties formed IPC which later collapsed. In 2016, stakeholders sat and formed TDA, a bloc Besigye and his group refer to a state affiliation.
