FRESH CONTROVERSY has emerged on the death of Ronald Ssebulime, who was executed by a police officer attached to Nagalama Station in Mukono a few days ago.
Ssebulime on the fateful day was traveling to visit his children at school when police began pursuing him, subsequently arrested and shot him dead moments after.
This came after State Minister for ICT Idah Nantaba reported Ssebulime to police on claims the deceased was planning to assassinate her.
However, the top management of the institution, last week issued an apology to Ssebulime’s family saying they acted on false information.
Police then arrested 4 of its officers who conducted the operation.
Their arrest ensued eyewitness accounts that implicated police officers to an act of extrajudicial killing.
New Twist
This website has learnt from security circles that the officer who shot told his superiors that Ssebulime who had been handcuffed and bundled on a police truck attempted to disarm a police officer.
“The policeman being accused of killing says Ssebulime tried to pull a gun from another officer,” a source was quoted as saying.
The shooter further adds that he fired bullets in self defence because already, they had received information that Ssebulime and another person were armed and dangerous. “We couldn’t take chances.”
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga while addressing the media last week, said they recovered nothing that could implicate Ssebulime as an assassin.
Hon. Nantaba commenting on the death of Ssebulime maintains the deceased was planning to harm her.
She remains home on orders of the President until investigations are completed.
