Former Rwandan envoy, Eugene Gasana has been given green card which permits him to permanently live and work in United State of America.
Gasana who served as Permanent Representative of Rwanda Mission to UN in New York fell out with Kigali in 2016.
After 7 years of service, Rwanda recalled Gasana who however, chose to apply for asylum in America.
Until todate he lives under the protection of Federal Police.
His lawyer, Michael Wildes on Saturday announced that he had succesffuly secured a green card for his client.
“Managing Partner Michael Wildes is pleased to announce the successful representation of Mr. Eugene Gasana, the former Ambassador to the Republic of Rwanda to the United Nations and Minister of State in charge of International Cooperation, in his Section 13 immigration matter, October 2018,” a statement reads.
“Under Section 13 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, individuals who entered the United States under diplomatic status and meet certain criteria are eligible to obtain permanent residence status (i.e. a green card).”
Gasana is quoted to have said that, “I am deeply thankful for the hard work and expertise of Mr. Michael Wildes in securing permanent residence for my family.
With limited options available to us, Mr. Wildes brilliantly leveraged a rarely-used provision of law known as ‘ Section 13 adjustment’ that protects former diplomats like myself.
Adding to the complexity, our case required approval before my eldest son turned 21-years-old and would no longer be my dependent.
As the deadline approached, Mr. Wildes and his team worked tirelessly to notify the top USCIS officials to ensure that our cases were timely approved.
As a former Ambassador to the United Nations, I have had the privilege to know some of the best legal professionals internationally.
Through this experience, I can confirm that Mr. Wildes and the lawyers at Wildes and Weinberg certainly rank among the world’s best.”
