State Minister for ICT, Hon Idah Nantaba has opened a can of worms to the orphans of Late Ronald Ssebulime who publicly demanded financial support from the politician as she primarily caused their father’s death.
Ssebulime was Sunday gunned down by police on claims he was trailing the Minister as she left her constituency in Kayunga District.
Initial version peddled by the security agency depicted Ssebulime as an assassin whose mission was to takeout Nantaba that has on several occasions survived death.
But later, as the public rubbished off police’s account after eyewitnesses implicated Nagalama police officers for executing Ssebulime who had surrendered, the Force’s publicist Fred Enanga on Wednesday came out to apologize to the deceased’s family acknowledging that indeed, he acted on lies fed to him by the officers.
He said those behind the extrajudicial killing of Mr. Ssebulime had already been arrested, charged with murder and professional misconduct.
As if that wasn’t enough, the public kept calling for trial of Minister Nantaba who allegedly played a key role in exterminating Ssebulime a widower and father of 4 who at the time of his death was going to visit two of his daughter at school.
Vividly angry, Nantaba has responded to calls for her arrest as “ridiculous” and attacked members of the media for being compromised to dent her image.
In a video, seen by this website, Nantaba vowed never to pull out a penny to compensate the orphans of Ssebulime.
Speaking in vernacular (Luganda) Nantaba maintained her stance that Ssebulime wasn’t a right person.
She said, an innocent person as claimed by the family, Ssebulime out of courtesy would have pulled-over when stopped by Nantaba and her bodyguard.
She however, felt sorry for his demise because had he stayed alive, she would have grilled him to find out what was his motive of trailing her.
“I would have wanted to ask him who had sent him to kill me,” said Nantaba in Luganda.
She warned the orphans to stop wasting time in demanding compensation from her, “whoever advised you to ask me money misled you.”
