Nagalama police is on the spot for killing a man who was traveling to visit his children at St. Andrew Kaggwa Secondary School, Kabimbiri in Kayunga Disitrict.
Ronald Ssebulime, a resident of Nakabugo village, in Busiro, Wakiso district was gunned down after junior ICT Minister Idah Nantaba reported to police that someone riding a heavy motorbike had been trailing her.
Whereas mystery surrounded the circumstances that led to his death, police spokesperson Fred Enanga would later issue a statement on Sunday evening hours after the incident to clarify on what prompted police to open fire at Sebulime killing him instantly.
But the family of deceased has come out to refute police’s version saying Mr. Sebulime had been on his way to school to visit his children.
Ms Nakazibwe told journalists that his brother was a single father of four having lost a wife in 2012.
“By the time he was shot, he was headed to visit two of his children at St. Andrew Kaggwa Secondary School, Kabimbiri in Kayunga district. His death shocked everyone,” she said in ululation.
Nakazibwe who was already at school waited anxiously together with the children until she called him but he was unable to pick.
“We kept calling his phone and he was not picking until we got disgusted as the girls [his children] were hungry. At around 5pm, we left the school and after reaching Gayaza town I was told that he had been shot dead,” she said.
The public has since asked Minister Nantaba to come clean on why she fed police with false information.
Another eye witness’ account completely pokes holes in police’s earlier version.
The witness says that Sebulime who had been bundled on the police truck was shot moments after he was arrested.
But police earlier indicated that Sebulime was killed in pursuit.
