Parliament Wants Independent Probe into Death of Nantaba’s Suspected Attacker

Legislators sitting on Human Rights Committee of Parliament have called for an independent inquiry into the manner in which Nagalama Police shot and killed Ronald Sebulime who is suspected to have been trailing ICT Minister Idah Nantaba.

The Committee’s chairperson Jenepher Nantumu in a statement said members were rattled with uncoordinated version in which police tried to justify the killing of Mr. Ronald.

She noted that, the accounts from police and eyewitness ratify a case of extrajudicial killing.

“Unfortunately we continue to receive questionable narrative from police and eyewitness all pointing to a prima facie case of extrajudicial killing,” Hon Nantumu said Tuesday.

Sebulime was Sunday gunned down by police officers who claim had been tipped off by Minister Nantaba that the deceased had been trailing her.

Police swung in action and opened gunfire at Sebulime was riding a motorbike.

In statement issued by police spokesman Fred Enanga on Sunday, he said Sebulime was shot in pursuit while his colleague managed to escape.

But Sebulime’s family member Irene Nakazibwe disputed police’s version insisting her brother was on his way to visit his children at school.

An eyewitness account indicates, police first arrested, handcuffed Sebulime before shooting at a close range.

The legislators want action taken on police officers behind the operation.
