Over the weekend while in Gulu presiding over a thanks giving ceremony at the invitation of Leader of Opposition (LoP) Hon Betty Aol Achan, opposition heavyweight Col. Kizza Besigye was yet again attacked by a group of hooligans chanting People Power slogans.
Unlike the earlier incident that occurred outside the premises of CBS in Mengo, this time round the group was suppressed by FDC radical youths who have vowed to deal with hooligans at any meeting point.
According to FDC member Doreen Nyanjura, one of Besigye’s loyalists, the People Power faction was led by Gulu LC5 councillor Mr. Simpleman Oboi.
“I was once again in Gulu on Saturday when Justine Oboi Simple Man, an LC5 councilor from the municipality led a group of hooligans to where the leader of minority in Parliament was holding a thanks giving match,” Nyajura said.
“This group came shouting people power our power and rising fists on an FDC function, these hooligans were largely ignored. In order to get attention, they started moving towards the people’s President while shouting People power as loud as they could, claiming they had his message from DP president Norbert Mao,” she added.
Ms Betty Aol who held the thanksgiving at Kaunda grounds invited her ‘master’ Besigye as the chief guest.
In his speech, Besigye asked the people of Acholi to remain focused as the struggle to remove Museveni nears the end.
Once the struggle is over, Besigye said, the people of Acholi will regain their land, their dignity and special attention will be put on the region to ensure total recovery after years of war.
Planned Attacks on Besigye
The Gulu incident was the second in a week after a group chanting people power slogans cordoned off Besigye as he left CBS radio where he had been hosted only to be saved by the station’s workers and its security.
But liberal as he is known, Besigye said such planned attacks are well orchestrated by the regime to rip apart the opposition, disrupt cohesion to form a formidable force against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Bobi Wine also came out to disown the group saying government works in many ways to split a strong force.
He wondered why he would harass a fellow opposition leader who shares similar ideals and values of removing NRM and paving her for a democratic dispensation.
However, there is a simmering fallout between Bobi Wine and Besigye, this website can authoritatively report.
Whereas, in the recent past the People Power Movement superintended by Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine had thought crashing Col. Besigye out of the political spectrum was uneasy task, to their consternation Besigye has slowly reclaimed supremacy.
While at Katonga Road in Kampla last week on the sidelines of a presser held by Besigye’s wing popularly known as Peoples’ Government, the extremist youths tasked to oversee the security of their ‘god father’ Besigye vowed to “deal with People Power” if they “dared their president again.”
“For us we are men of action. When we decide to do something we do it. An example is walk to work where he battled police to the edge. Bobi Wine is in for a ride,” said one of the unidentified muscular youth who is part of inner circle of Besigye’s security.
Why Bobi Launched Fresh War on KB
According to an FDC official attached to Besigye’s camp, Bobi Wine was surprised by Besigye’s comeback when he inaugurated the Peoples’ Government in the singer’s territory Busabala in Kampala.
“Bobi Wine saw that as a provocation by Besigye and his squad,” said an official.
“Previously he thought he had buried Besigye’s political career by sponsoring propagandists to popularize him as far better than Besigye,” he added.
This official who is very close to Besigye wished to remain unnamed for fear of reprimand.
We have learnt that Besigye contained the Bobi Wine wave by quietly launching covert operations to his strengthen grassroot structures across the country.
At a time when Bobi Wine was enjoying limelight, busy on TV offering interviews, holding music concerts, Besigye began reaching out to all FDC supporters reassuring them the regime was at its weakest and should never be diverted by the ‘upcoming’ political novices.
The official further said Besigye reminded all those fanatics who contemplated joining the new red movement (People Power) of sacrifices they made in 20 years of struggle.
“His relevant example was JPAM who in 2016 had been perceived as new opposition face only to garner 1.4% on the ballot,” said Besigye’s man.
TrumpetNews understands that after gaining assurance, Besigye then commissioned his government.
Bobi Wine’s worry now is what does he stand for? He can’t launch People Power government he will be perceived as fighting Besigye.
“It is against that backdrop that he has clandestinely resorted to dispatching his hooligans to harm Besigye,” an official said.
