The Africa Strategic Leadership Centre is pleased to announce the list of distinguished speakers that will grace the Africa Now summit at Speke Resort Munyonyo from the 12th to 13th of March.
The Summit is the Centre’s flagship program hosted by Heads of States and business leaders on the continent.
Speaking
about the choice of speakers, ASLC Board chairman, Dr. Robert Mwesigwa said:
“Our speakers are key strategic thought leaders in their own right and have
been been carefully selected from across sectors to enrich and contribute to
delivering the Africa Now summit theme which is building “Towards a secure,
integrated and growing Africa”.
Confirmed key speakers to note are Tony Elemelu
of UBA, Benedict Oramah, the President AFREXIM Bank, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi the secretary General UNCTAD, MTN Group CEO
Rob Shuter, Heba Salama, the Director COMESA Regional Investment
Agency, and Nigeria Economic Summit Group chairman Asue Ighodalo.
Also confirmed is Ahunna Eziokonwa, the UNDP Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Vera Songwe, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare – Permanent Representative Uganda Mission to the United Nations, Hon. Basser Bourita Minister of Foreign Affairs – Kingdom of Morocco, Hon. Baleke Mbete, Speaker of South African Parliament, Nicholas Nesbitt – Chairman East Africa Business Council as well as Hon. Samia Nkrumah President – Kwame Nkrumah Pan-African Centre.
Also among those confirmed is Dr. Elsie Kanza, Senior Director and Head of Africa, World Economic Forum as well as Prof. Eddy Maloka – CEO African Peer Review Mechanism and Ivica Dačić Foreign Minister of Serbia.These speakers will join several Heads of State and Government leaders to discuss an array of topics across select panels indicated on the working agenda to be released soon.
Nigerian economist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Tony Elumelu is one of the major highlights for the March12-13 summit to be held at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala. Mr Elumelu is the chairman of Heirs Holdings, the United Bank for Africa, Transcorp and founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation. Elumelu recognised as one of “Africa’s 20 Most Powerful People in 2012” by Forbes magazine.
The AfricaNow19 Summit is expected to drive effective public engagement which reflects & inspires the dream of a better Africa, with a background to Nelson Mandela’s belief in the realization of the unity of Africa, where its leaders combine in their efforts to solve the problems of the continent.
President Yoweri Museveni, the co-chair of the conference will be joined by Somalia President Mohammed Abdulahi Farmajo, South Africa’s Syril Ramaphosa, El-Sisi of Egypt, who is also African Union Chairman and Tanzania Deputy President Samia Suluhu.
East African Community head and President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame is yet to confirm his attendance as well as Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, among other expected heads of state.
The speakers and presidents will engage in intense panel sessions discussing the agenda for Africa’s future.
The Africa Now Summit, themed “Towards a secure, integrated and growing Africa” will bring together leading minds from the continent to share insights on trends driving Africa’s progress.
The agenda of the Summit is to discuss & propose solutions to Africa’s development challenges. The outcome of these discussions is to influence policy reform which enhances public and private sector development in Africa.
The Summit will also explore how to strengthen private sector collaboration so that this can continue to support Africa’s development. It will mobilize resources required to address Africa’s critical challenges.
