Former executive director in charge of supervision at the Central Bank, Ms. Justine Bagyenda has been replaced as board member of Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA).
Titus Mulindwa, a former lawyer of Bank of Uganda was nominated as a potential replacement of Bagyenda.
The affluent soft spoken Bagyenda is among several officials named in the contested sale of private banks by Bank of Uganda.
Bagyenda was unceremoniously dismissed by Governor Bank of Uganda, Prof. Emmanuel Mutebile before her contract ended last year.
She was then appointed on FIA board by Ministry of Finance, a move that sparked off criticism by Parliament as lawmakers questioned her dented image.
The angry legislators vowed not to approve her person during vetting session.
On Monday this website learnt that the Appointments committee of Parliament led by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga secretly vetted and endorsed Mr. Mulindwa as a perfect replacement of Bagyenda.
Last year, Parliament successfully vetted and approved the new FIA board with exception of Bagyenda who snubbed the meeting following several petitions to the Speaker protesting her re-appointment.
FIA is a government agency established by the Parliament of Uganda to monitor, investigate, and prevent money laundering in the country. Bagyenda has been serving as FIA Board member and on May 2018,
