The NRM historical, Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza doesn’t regret participating in brutalizing a female cop over the weekend in Seeta, Mukono District.
But rather regrets why the officer wasn’t not shot dead.
With his name tagged to an engrossment of uncountable sordid acts, the Envoy to Burundi has yet again hit headlines having presided over brutality against a female traffic cop, Esther Namaganda who stop a car in which Kyalogonza was chauffeured.
To the cop’s dismay, two armed military men jumped out of the vehicle, punched, roughed up and threatened to shoot an officer on duty.
As the combatants were busy manhandling the lady, a revered ageing gentleman would later come out of a monster Toyota V8 series carrying Burundi number plate.
The onlookers may be thought the old man would reprimand his guards and apologize to the lady.
Instead, the General behaved like rabid dog ready to crash whatever comes its way.
With the boss’ presence, the unashamed men in uniform continued to manhandle the lady until they realized a bystander was busy filming their nasty misdeeds.
They descended on him and thumped him in black and blue before driving off.
It later turned out that the man who recorded the incident is a UBC journalist, Peter Otai.
The traffic lady’s offense was to stop a car carrying a General and his guards for violating traffic guidelines.
Shoot Her
Whereas the public had heard from all the authorities, the man at the center of controversy, Kyaligonza hadn’t spoken out.
On Monday evening, an audio clip made rounds on social media carrying a voice believed to be that of Kyaligonza.
It is understood he was giving one of the local TV stations BBS an interview on what exactly happened.
Explaining in vernacular (Luganda) Kyaligonza regrets why the woman was not shot dead for antagonizing security officers.
He said his driver made a turn in the middle of the road because ahead there was an accident and road blocked.
He warned that Ugandans should learn how to handle security personnel and civilians.
Efforts to reach Gen. Kyaligonza to substantiate on his claims remained unsuccessful by the time of filing this report.
