Police this morning raided the home of NBS newscaster Solomon Sserwanja and arrested his wife. The NBS journalist was not home at the time of the arrest. Sserwanja’s wife Vivian Nakalika works at the ministry of health.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Sserwanja’s wife is being detained over the 14 boxes of government drugs and vaccines that were found at the couple’s home.
“Mrs. Sserwanja has been brought to police to record a statement and detained. We are also looking for Mr. Sserwanja to help us investigate how government drugs ended up at his house”
Earlier, Ugandans had taken to social media questioning the arrests of the journalist’s wife thinking the couple was in trouble over Sserwanja’s journalism work.
According to Police, 14 boxes of Lumefantgine tablets, vaccines for Hepatitis B and other drugs labeled with government seals were discovered at the Sserwanja residence
Police also confirmed they were holding five suspects on charges of illegal possession of classified drugs contrary to section 27 (2) of the National Drugs Authority Cap 206.
