Fury as Danish Embassy Rejects Uganda’s New EAC Passport

The new East African passport

The new Ugandan East African Community passport launched last year in December is yet to be approved by Danish authorities.

Therefore, Ugandans seeking to travel to European countries are still stuck as the Danish Embassy in Nairobi can’t issue visas in that regard.

The Consular Officer, Annie Ostman has since notified visa applicants that the new passport features are yet to be incorporated in the foreign immigration systems.

Ugandans have since protested the development after a copy of a rejected visa application circulated on internet.

Many local social media users took to different platforms to express dismay.

“The Danish Embassy has received your visa application. You have applied using the new Ugandan East African Community passport that was launched in December 2018. Unfortunately, this passport is not yet approved by Danish Authorities,” a notification from Nairobi which has spread like wild fire on social media reads.

Written by a Consular Officer Annie, it adds, “Therefore we cannot issue a visa for this passport. We don’t know how long it takes for this new passport to be approved.”

Annie informed the applicant that that the embassy will keep the application open in their visa system for 15 days, “would you like to keep it open until then, and if we have not received an approval in that time, then we withdraw the application? Kindly let us know, if you wish to do that or withdraw the application now.”

She said, the embassy will inform VFS in Kampala not accept applications with new passport for the time being.
