The leader of opposition (LoP) Ms Betty Aol Ochan has agreed to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s suggestion to allow Bugweri County MP Abdu Kantuntu complete the inquiry in to closure of seven banks.
Kadaga and the FDC leadership have been having public public exchanges over the matter and after an intense meeting with the Speaker, her Deputy Jacob Oulanya, Shadow Attorney General Wilfred Niwagaba and deputy Opposition Whip Harold Muhindo, there was a general agreement that Katuntu will continue to head the COSASE until February 14th 2019.
Sources close to the meeting intimated that Ms Kadaga contended that changing the leadership of the inquiry committee would disorganize the process since it has almost reached to the close.
The FDC had earlier insisted that KAWEMPE South MP Mbarak Munyagwa takes over the leadership of the COSASE. When FDC reshuffled leadership in parliament last year in August, Speaker Kadaga requested the party to let committees complete the work they were doing though some committees took on new assignments.
FDC has analytically been shuffling leaders who were suspected to be sympathetic to former party President Gen Mugisha Muntu who quit the part last year for his new political party ‘New Formation’.
