First lady Janet Kataha Museveni has said her hubby will continue to lead Uganda as long as God wishes.
While launching a water scheme constructed by Living Water International, a Christian non-governmental organization in Ruhama Municipality, Ntungamo district, Mrs. Museveni described NRM and Museveni’s long stay in power as God’s will and that the President will remain in power as long as he still believes in God.
She noted, “When God has a purpose in someone to lead a country, He will keep in him in position even if people wish otherwise, as long as that is His choice”
At the same event, the first Lady expressed her disappointment in the people of Ruhama for disregarding her guidance and she had to opt out of elective politics. She explained that she thought that the people of would maximally utilize her position as a Member of Parliament to help them carter for their families but they were stubborn enough to not give the opportunity to help them.
The launched water scheme will be serving two sub counties including 17 institutions like churches, schools and health centers in Ruhama County. The 920 million gravity flow scheme was initiated by the first lady while she was still serving as the area MP to overcome the challenges of clean water scarcity that put families at a risk of catching illnesses that come with being exposed to unsafe water.
Living Water Country director Mr. Bernard Mooya Kachiko raised concern that whereas they are doing charity work in provision of this service, they remain bothered by taxes on equipment and borehole materials making their work very problematic.
He said, “There are several profit-making companies which are exempted in this country and yet they take all profits to their home countries but non-profit making organizations continue to pay taxes which he said is unfair”.
He added that this scheme will not only provide safe clean water but also looks at improving sanitation and hygiene like ensuring residents have effective latrine facilities and sensitization against open disposing of wastes, which has been a normal practice among the people.
The area woman MP Beatrice Rwakimari who was also in attendance promised to discuss with her colleagues in parliament to speak against these taxes that are imposed on charity organizations are waved off because these organizations are doing an outstanding role in addressing challenges faced by Ugandans in many sectors.
