The FDC Parliamentary leadership has met Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on Wednesday afternoon to design a solution for the standoff surrounding the extension of Abdu Katuntu’s term as head of COSASE.
Ms. Kadaga’s decision to award Katuntu and his committee members 60 more days despite their term expiry generated rage among FDC leaders who accused the Speaker of dictatorship.
But Kadaga had advised FDC to ‘open eyes’ and look further into her proposal because her guidance is good for the institution and the country.
FDC leadership at Najjanankumbi threatened to seek legal action should Kadaga insist on extending Katuntu’s term.
FDC basing on its numerical strength in the House appointed Kawempe Legislator Mubarak Munyagwa to replace Katuntu as COSASE chairperson as the law requires.
On Wednesday the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Hon Betty Aol Ochan and Opposition Chief Whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda secretly met with Ms. Kadaga.
The details of the meeting remain scanty with Mr. Ssemujju confirming the meeting but declining to divulge what was discussed.
“It is true we met the speaker but you don’t expect me to tell you what we discussed,” Ssemujju told journalists.
Earlier Mr.Abdu Katuntu dimissed reports peddled by his party that he had influenced the speaker to extend his tenure.
Kadaga argues that Katuntu and his committee should be left to complete a report on seven defunct banks following a probe into sale of these financial institution by the Central Bank.
