Uganda’s Capital, Kampala has endured a 5- hour blackout after strong winds accompanied with lightning and heavy storm struck power lines causing total darkness.
Umeme, a power distributing firm took to its social media pages on Friday night to announce that its lines are off and the relevant team was working around the clock to restore sanity.
The night life being a weekend has been antagonized as many partiers had taken to social media to decry of the inconvenience.
The darkness has so far hovered all most all the suburbs of Kampala and its neighboring town centers.
A commissioner in the Office of the Prime Minister in charge of Disaster Martin Owor has issued a brief notice warning the dwellers of electrocution as live wires are lying on ground poles broke down in many parts of the city due to heavy storm.
He cautioned the people to avoid flooded area.
“Massive storm has broken and dropped electricity wires on several roads around Kampala today evening. Take extra care . Be on the lookout.
Broken trees as well have blocked a number of roads. Do not cross flooded areas. Wait at safe location as Authorities normalize the situation. Be extra alert,” his message reads.
