Uganda’s biggest water vessel Mv Kalangala has Tuesday evening reached Mutima Beach to retrieve wreckage of ill-fated boat which capsized on Saturday evening killing tens of partiers on board.
Whereas the number of the occupants remains unknown, authorities said they rescued 46 survivors and by press time the death toll had shot to 33.
But reports say there were over 120 people on board at a time the boat lost control and capsized.
MV Templar left KK beach for K-palm in Mukono district where owners who also perished had organized a party for their customers.
Eyewitness says that however, sensing danger the captain changed route to Mutima beach where he needed to dock to attend to the mechanical condition.
But three hundred meters to the shores the boat broke down and overturned.
Templar Bissase and his wife Sheila who owned boat were laid to rest on Tuesday along with other Ugandans who lost lives.
The government has since declared Friday a national mourning day.
Efforts of retrieving the shipwreck had remained futile.
Authorities anticipate more bodies are trapped in the shipwreck.
Police director of operations Asuman Mugenyi said the operation was underway and by Wednesday hopes are high the wreckage will be hauled to the main land.
