Interview: Army Reacts to Kayihura’s Alleged Plan to Overthrow Museveni

UPDF spokesperson Brig Karemire

The UPDF establishment has categorically stated that it will not be cowed by criticism engineered by opposition politicians against the reinforcement in the city with a cardinal goal of ensuring safety of all Ugandans.

The military’s response was prompted by a story published by this website on Wednesday reporting how a section of soldiers surrounded one of the Kampala suburbs- Kisasi- rounded up, clobbered and manhandled civilians and ended up breaking a barmaid’s arm.

The incident happened last week on Wednesday as military men patrolled the area.

UPDF publicist Brig. Richard Karemire expressed sympathies to the barmaid before apologizing on behalf of the errant soldiers.

“Mistakes will be corrected as we focus on the bigger picture of securing the lives and property of our people working alongside other security agencies,” Karemire said.

He reminded those criticizing the decision taken by Commander in Chief (CiC) President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni particularly opposition politicians that UPDF will not intimidated by cheap propaganda.

“We will not look on as Ugandan are being attacked and killed by criminals. UPDF will step in and perform its duties,” he added.

On Monday, the powerful opposition party FDC questioned the deployment of military around the city and whether the army had taken over the roles of police.
