Peter Kakonge is New Flying Squad Commandant

Kakonge

The Commandant of a lethal unit of police The Flying Squad Peter Kakonge has issued a directive sacking all operatives under his command.

Kakonge notified his juniors that their services have been terminated until further notice.

“All those who have been working with Flying Squad Unit as operatives, their services have been terminated with effect from November 5, 2018 until further notice,” Kakonge’s letter dated November 5, reads.

This website couldn’t ascertain why police took such a decision at a time security is grappling to combat the increasing criminality in the country.

We couldn’t further establish whether Kakonge acted on behalf of his boss, IGP Martin Okoth Ochola who in the recent past had exhibited interests of disbanding the outfit until he appointed Kakonge which breathed a new life in its operations amid reports the Unit would be replaced by Organised Crime Unit.

Mr. Ochola thus appointed Peter Kakonge in June to lead the group whose past leadership had aroused queries.

Its former leader ACP Herbert Muhangi to date is detained in a military facility at Makindye Barracks over a number of charges which include kidnap, murder, robbery and many more.

Muhangi and several others are yet to be produced in Court.
