Ever since former army commander Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu announced his decision to quit Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), a powerful opposition party, many of its respectable leaders have been embroiled in a fierce cyber battle against their former comrade.
In retaliation Gen. Muntu has maintained silence as his former party members continue grumbling and resurrecting mole claims.
For 14 years, Muntu spent in FDC, he failed to brush off allegations of working for NRM.
Until last month when Muntu announced his decision to leave a party he once led as president for five years.
His attempt to seek a reelection last November faced hostility from Patrick Oboi Amuriat who succeeded him.
In his concession speech, Muntu said he would conduct nationwide consultations before considering a decision of whether to stay or leave.
The latest to attack Muntu is Mr. Wafula Ogutu a former MP for Bukooli in Eastern Uganda who also served as Leader of Opposition during Muntu’s reign as FDC president.
On Monday Ogutu took to his social media platform to attack Muntu for recruiting from FDC and further questioned his motive.
Ogutu publicly said he was ‘disappointed with Muntu’s efforts to weaken FDC.’
His outbursts stem from the recent media reports that over the weekend 60 of FDC top officials crossed to Muntu’s New Formation.
“I have known and worked closely with Gen Muntu for many years
He is a comrade, a serious nationalist and a patriot.
But his decision to leave FDC at this critical time in our efforts for national unity, although it is his right to do so and his targeting FDC members for recruitment into his new Party so as to weaken it, as recent news from Ankole say, instead of going for the NRM big pond , is a big disappointment to me.
It was absolutely not necessary nor justified,” Wafula Ogutu’s brief statement
