Insecurity continues to be on the rise in Kampala’s suburbs. Last night, Archie Rwego, 44, the Farmers Federation Finance Director, and husband to Dorah Asio, 40, who is reportedly CID Director Grace Akullo’s young sister, was stabbed 10 times as he tried to fight the goons that attacked their home at 3am.
Security has since been tightened in Najjera in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District after the brutal incident that has left many neighbors in shock.
The attack which was carried out in the wee hours of Wednesday morning had the thugs scaling the home’s walls, poisoning two of the dogs and hacking the remaining one to death. They then broke into the hapless couple’s house before robbing the house clean. In the ensuing fight to save his family, Archie Rwego put up a spirited fight before being overpowered by the panga wielding goons who stabbed him to death.
CID spokesman, SP Vincent Ssekate, confirmed the attack. “The thugs attacked the home during the rain. They stabbed the dog, broke the behind door and opened the bedroom using keys left in the door. They had knives and iron bars,” Ssekate said.
Lwego was stabbed seven times in the head, twice on the left shoulder and once in the chest, according to the CID spokesperson. Police said the victim collapsed and the attackers picked unspecified amounts of money and a TV from the house.
“The victim died as he was being rushed to Najjera Hospital. Our investigations indicate that the guard had left for Nebbi District on Monday. We are investigating whether the guard had already reached Nebbi or not,” he told Daily Monitor
The attack comes on the heels of other brutal attacks that have been meted on residents of Kira and Najjera. At the start of this year, the Uganda Medical Worker’s Association Chairman was attacked as he accessed his residence. He was however lucky to escape with minor injuries.
Residents had earlier formed local vigilante groups armed with basic weapons to police the neighborhood supported by watchful whatsapp groups where information was relayed.
