Unidentified object on Thursday morning exploded at Mother Carew Bright School in Maganjo- Kawempe, Kampala injuring two children who have been rushed to Mulago Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The injured are identified as Ashraf Igeme, 13, and Ronitah Namakura (same age) all in Primary Seven.
Kampala Metropolitan Commander Luke Oweyesigire confirmed the incident saying police bomb squad experts have since rushed to the scene to examine fragments of this object.
“Today at 07:30am, an explosion occurred at Mother Care Bright School Maganjo in Primary seven class room. Only two Pupils identified as Igembe Ashraf 13 years and Namakula Ronitah 13 years were confirmed injured and rushed to mulago hospital for treatment,” Mr. Luke said in a brief statement sent to this website.
He explained that Ashraf’s hand was shattered as a result of the explosion and the girl’s eye is slightly injured.
“The cause was as a result of Playing with un identified item which is yet to be established by Police Experts from Bomb squad.”
The object was ferried to class by a one Abdul Kasoozi, 12, who said he picked it on Wednesday as he returned home.
“The experts have picked the fragments for further analysis and investigation, more details will be availed soon,” Luke said.
