There was panic in Industrial Area yesterday when Toyota Uganda showroom was on gutted by fire destroying several vehicles worth millions of shillings.

The showroom located in Industrial Area along Jinja road, caught fire at around 4pm.

The smoke from the showroom was noticed by residents and traders in the area who immediately informed the police.

By the time Police Fire Brigade responded, the fire had burnt one vehicle and was spreading to the other vehicles in the showroom.

The police report from the scene of fire indicates that one vehicle was completely burnt, the other five vehicles caught fire but the damage was not so serious.

According to director Police Fire and Rescue Service John Mugisa, the suspicion based on the scene of fire analysis indicates that the fire could have been as a result of an electric short circuit

“The fire started at 4 pm. We suspect it was as a result of an electrical short circuit,” Mugisa said.

Toyota Uganda officials refused to comment on the incident when reached. Incidents of fire related to electric short circuits are common in Uganda.
