A man suspected to have participated in the brutal murder of senior police officer ASP Muhammad Kirumira is dead.
Adul Katerega, a former ADF rebel who was granted amnesty in the past was shot my military intelligence operatives who conducted an operation on Friday night in Kampala to apprehend several of the suspectslinked to Kirumira’s murder.
The former Buyende DPC was last month executed as he returned home in Bulenga, Wakiso District.
His death prompted President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to brief the nation twice in a row in one week to assure the public that the assassins would be arrested very soon.
Museveni said the killers had left behind many clues which would ease the arrest.
On Monday morning while using his social media pages, the President thanked Military Intelligence for conducting a very successful operation which saw three suspects arrested.
“Countrymen, Countrywomen and Bazukulu. I am sure I am speaking on behalf of many of you when I congratulate the CMI squads which arrested a number of suspects in the killing of ASP Kirumira on Friday night. Quite a number of them will appear in court soon,” said Museveni.
He added: “In the process, one of them, by the names of Kateregga Abdu, was shot and later died of his injuries. It turns out that Kateregga was one of the ADF terrorists that had benefited from Amnesty in the past. This, therefore, is to put on notice all the killers that the wages of sin is death ( Romans 6:23 ).Members of the public that may have some more information about this particular gang of Kateregga should inform the police.”
This website understands that CMI raided a number of Kampala suburbs after gathering intelligence that the suspect had ‘cells’ around the city.
