Inside Bobi Wine, Muntu Talks

Muntu and Bobi Wine

In May 2017, Kyadondo East legislator Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine approached a number of key officials in opposition for consultations.

Those he consulted include DP president Norbert Mao, Elias Lukwago, Col. Kizza Besigye, Mugisha Muntu and several others.

His intention was to express his bid for Kyadondo East MP seat after court threw out FDC candidate Apollo Kantinti.

This website understands that whereas DP party implored Bobi Wine to take its flag, the pop start was willing to contest as FDC candidate.

This catapulted into an urgent meeting convened at FDC head offices in Najjanankumbi in May which Bobi Wine and Kantinti attended.

The meeting sought to forge way forward on whether Kantinti would give away for Bobi Wine.

Many officials objected the idea saying Bobi Wine had no support and would be trounced by NRM.

They argued that it would be insensitive to sideline Kantinti who had been occupying the seat, in fact many top shots wondered whether this was excitement.

Bobi Wine later contested as Independent and won with a landslide.

Many FDC senior leaders including Kizza Besigye congratulated Bobi Wine who after met in person the party president (then) Mugisha Muntu.

Talks Begin

A source privy to this meeting said on that day, the two principles began secret talks.

“Muntu openly expressed his displeasure and harassment he was subjected to by Col. Kizza Besigye and his group,” a source said.

Muntu promised to work closely with Bobi Wine if at all he seeks a re-election in November.

But he again told Bobi Wine that he was unsure we would return as FDC president.

Indeed in November Muntu lost to Patrick Amuriat Oboi POA).

Muntu began his nationwide consultations but further intensified talks with Bobi Wine who at a time had started becoming a force in the politics of the country.

A source said that having supported FDC candidate in Rukungiri by-election, Bobi Wine was very disappointed when FDC particularly Besigye fronted a candidate in Bugiri municipality to contest against Asuman Basalirwa who had been a close ally of the party.

Muntu and his followers were equally against this unfairness exhibited by greedy FDC leaders.

Muntu again met with Bobi Wine and JEEMA. The two leaders agreed to rally behind Basalirwa. However, Muntu proposed that he would support clandestinely as he would be seen undermining the party.

Indeed JEEMA trounced FDC.

The trio (Muntu, Bobi Wine and Basalirwa) sat and agreed to weigh in on Kasiano Wadri in the Arua by-election.

Here Muntu publically exhibited his side.

A source said Muntu chose to announce backing Wadri because he had almost completed his consultations and had fully agreed to work with Bobi Wine in the people power movement.

This explains why all MPs loyal to Muntu participated in canvassing support for Wadri.

What this website couldn’t independently establish is whether Muntu and Bobi Wine could soon register one political party with the former as president a our source claimed.

But on Friday Bobi Wine revealed his readiness to collaborate with Bobi Wine.

His revelation comes after Muntu admitted that he on several engaged Bobi Wine.
